About the role
Camunda is the enterprise platform for agentic orchestration, enabling organizations to coordinate AI agents, people, and systems across complex, end-to-end business processes. Fully remote and global, we are transforming into an AI-first organisation, built on our own platform.
As part of the Engineering Operations Team, you will play a key role in fostering engineering excellence by creating, implementing and maintaining scalable core processes to enhance development efficiency, reliability, and quality within the Camunda 8 code bases.
Your mission is to ensure our internal development lifecycle is autonomous and frictionless. You will work with infrastructure and core software engineering teams to ensure smooth workflows, robust dependency management, and continuous improvement of CI processes.
What you'll do
- Lead the shift toward an automated engineering lifecycle by implementing and orchestrating unified processes in the Camunda 8 repos.
- Implement AI-assisted processes like release management, autonomous dependency updates, and proactive CVE remediation.
- Continuously optimize CI/release health and development velocity using a metric-driven approach to identify bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to implement the CI strategy and engineering best practices.
- Identify friction points in engineering workflows and evolve them into automated, self-sustaining systems.
What they're looking for
- Strong Software Engineering experience with a track record of delivering results (preferably in Java).
- Specialization in Fullstack or Backend development.
- Passion for engineering operational excellence including CI/CD optimization, dependency management, and build efficiency.
- Strong experience in CI build tools like GitHub Actions, Maven, Docker, and automations using Shell or Python.
- Experience in developer experience tools, process optimization, and driving AI adoption.
- Comfortable with a 'you build it, you run it' mindset and taking ownership of the codebase.
Nice to have
- Experience designing efficient cross-team operations.
- Practical experience with Camunda or other BPMN systems.

The hot takeJeff's read on Camunda
We like Camunda a LOT...good bennies & perks, respectable Glassdoor, and a clear remote work policy: "Our people work remotely. We do not hire for specific locations." Here's what ya gotta know, though...like most work-from-anywhere companies, they're not able to hire citizens of every country. And you want to travel while working, you can, but they say "Working temporarily from other places can be possible, but only within bounds and with implications that need to be considered." Basically, you need to earn it.
