Mode is a fast-growing technology company building businesses at the intersection of AI, data, mobile apps, and digital experiences. Recognized by Deloitte as the #1 fastest-growing software company in North America in 2023, Mode reaches over 100M monthly active users globally.
We are looking for an exceptional Sr. Mobile Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of user-facing features. This is a hands-on, high-impact role involving rapid iterations, performance optimization, and the use of modern AI coding tools as a force multiplier.
What you'll do
- Lead the design, development, and optimization of user-facing features across web and mobile experiences.
- Enter unfamiliar codebases to understand complex systems, identify risks, and build reliable production systems.
- Collaborate closely with backend, product, and design teams to bring new capabilities to market.
- Use modern AI coding and agentic tools to plan, implement, test, and review engineering work.
- Partner with cross-functional team members to gain user insights and measure success by value added to users.
- Advocate for unit/integration testing and manage automated testing and continuous deployment to app stores.
- Take ownership of features end-to-end, from concept to production, moving between apps and codebases as priorities shift.
What they're looking for
- 5+ years of professional mobile engineering experience delivering native applications on both Android and iOS.
- Proficiency in Android: Kotlin, Java, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Flow, Dagger/Hilt, Retrofit, and Room.
- Proficiency in iOS: Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit, Swift Concurrency (async/await), Combine, and Core Data.
- Experience with GitHub version control and pull-request based workflows.
- Solid understanding of SOLID principles, Clean Coding, and automated testing (Espresso, XCTest).
- Experience publishing and maintaining apps on Google Play and Apple App Store, including release management.
- Agentic AI proficiency using tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot for infrastructure and code reviews.
- Ability to understand unfamiliar architecture and debug systems you did not originally design.
- Exceptional organizational and analytical skills with the ability to lead technical aspects of large-scale systems.
Nice to have
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions.
- Experience with cross-platform frameworks like Kotlin Multiplatform, Flutter, or React Native.
- Knowledge of web front-end technologies like React and TypeScript.
- Integration of LLM/AI features into mobile apps or building agentic workflows.
- Experience with mobile analytics and experimentation tools like Mixpanel, Firebase, or A/B testing.
- Experience with mobile ads, monetization SDKs, or consumer utility apps.

The hot takeJeff's read on Mode Mobile
Here's the positives I've found on Mode Mobile:
- Strong Glassdoor score (4.2).
- Clear remote work policy.
They're global: "Our team works remotely around the 🌎, with members in the U.S., Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Poland, India, and more."
Here's the negatives I've gleaned:
"We operate at startup speed"...usually translates to burnout in my experience.
"A fast-moving, supportive, global remote environment"...2/3 of this is good, "fast-moving" is always a concern.
They talk a lot more about their company rather than why you should work there. SELL ME!
