About the role
Postscript is the AI messaging platform trusted by 20,000+ Shopify brands, including Brooklinen, Ruggable, and True Classic. With a mission to make SMS a top revenue-driving channel, the company has built a best-in-class marketing platform featuring advanced AI capabilities.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be a high-ownership contributor to core product or platform teams, owning meaningful systems end-to-end and driving technical quality. This high-autonomy role is for engineers who are energized by ambiguity and leverage AI-first development to build distributed systems at scale.
Backed by Greylock and Y Combinator, Postscript has been fully remote since 2018. This position involves orchestrating code and influencing technical standards to allow the organization to grow sustainably.
What you'll do
- Take deep ownership of systems and product areas as a technical expert
- Independently investigate, design, and execute solutions across distributed systems
- Architect, build, and maintain highly available, scalable REST APIs and backend services
- Drive system decoupling, modularization, and technical debt reduction
- Build agentically using concurrent autonomous agent workflows
- Stay at the forefront of emerging AI tooling and practices to improve engineering workflows
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, data, and go-to-market teams in an async-first environment
- Identify and eliminate single points of failure to improve system resilience
What they're looking for
- 6+ years of experience building large-scale backend systems and APIs
- Active daily user of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot
- Proficiency in Python, Go, React, and TypeScript
- Experience with Kubernetes, AWS, Datadog, and relational/NoSQL databases
- Strong command of SQL and thoughtful database modeling
- Ability to context switch quickly across concurrent workstreams
- Strong instincts for technical tradeoffs between engineering practices and business priorities
Nice to have
- Experience with both 0-to-1 initiatives and complex existing systems
- Ability to track the AI tooling landscape in real time

The hot takeJeff's read on Postscript
Likes: Their 4.2 Glassdoor score is relatively strong for companies with more than ten reviews. They have a clear perks & benefits section. They were shared on the Forbes Best Startup Employers List. They have solid testimonials.
Dislikes: The first few folds is about who THEY are and what they expect YOU to be. Companies really should start the same way you would by selling a prospect: target audience first, you second.
