Privacy Policy

Beach Commute is the job seeker’s tool – and that includes how we handle your data. This policy explains what we collect when you use beachcommute.com and the Beach Commute Atlas, why we collect it, and the choices and rights you have.

01 – Who we are

Beach Commute (“Beach Commute,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates beachcommute.com and the Beach Commute Atlas (atlas.beachcommute.com) – a toolkit that helps people find legit, fully-remote jobs. This includes our curated job board and job alerts, the Job Matcher and Personal Matchmaker, Resume Optimizer and cover-letter writer, Application Tracker, Saved Jobs, Salary Coach and Salary Passport, Vibe Check (listing health / ghost-job checker), the Life Math Calculator, our free guides and downloads (such as the 297 Remote Companies list), the coaching waitlist, and your personal dashboard (together, the “Services”). Some of these tools are embedded on beachcommute.com but served from atlas.beachcommute.com; this policy covers both.

Unlike a data broker, we collect personal information directly from you, as the person using our Services – to help you in your job search. We are the controller of that information. If you don’t agree with this policy, please don’t use the Services.

02 – Information we collect

  • Account & contact information. Name, email address, and password when you create an account, subscribe to job alerts, request a guide, or join a waitlist.
  • Job-search content you provide. Resume and profile details you upload or paste into the Resume Optimizer and cover-letter writer; job titles, skills, years of experience, seniority, salary expectations, and location or timezone preferences you enter into the Job Matcher, Personal Matchmaker, Salary Coach, or Salary Passport; job listing URLs and job descriptions you submit to Vibe Check or the ghost-job checker; saved jobs, saved companies, filters and alert preferences; notes and statuses you add in the Application Tracker.
  • Answers, calculations, and free-text you submit. Quiz and survey answers, commute and cost-of-living inputs to the Life Math Calculator, and open-ended statements you write (for example, why you want coaching, or what you’re looking for in your next role). Free-text answers are read by our team and summarized in aggregate.
  • Subscription & billing information. Plan, subscription status, and billing records. Card payments are processed by Stripe and SamCart – we do not store full card numbers.
  • Usage, event, and device information. Collected automatically as you use the Services: IP address, device and browser type, operating system, pages and screens viewed, referring URL and landing page, marketing source parameters (such as utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign), and event-level records of what you do in our tools – for example scans started and completed, results shown, buttons and job listings clicked, companies you open or view in a guide, searches you type into a guide or tool, filters you apply, downloads, email submissions, errors, and timestamps and durations for those actions.
  • Email engagement. Whether our emails were delivered, opened, clicked, bounced, or unsubscribed, and which links you followed.
  • Approximate location. General location (typically country or region) inferred from your IP address, for relevant job results and analytics. We do not collect precise GPS location.
  • Communications. Messages you send us, including support emails and survey responses.

We do not knowingly collect Social Security numbers, government IDs, financial account numbers, health information, or other sensitive categories of data. Please don’t include them in resumes, listings, or messages you submit.

03 – How we collect it

  • Directly from you – when you sign up, subscribe, upload a resume, run a tool, answer a quiz, or contact us.
  • Automatically – through cookies, local storage, and similar technologies, and through our own event logging as you use the Services (see Cookies & analytics). Tools embedded on beachcommute.com log the same events as the versions hosted on atlas.beachcommute.com.
  • From service providers – for example, our payment processors confirm your subscription status, our email providers report delivery and engagement, and our analytics providers report usage.
  • From public sources – job listings and company information we gather from employer career sites and applicant tracking systems to build our job board. This is company data, not data about you.

We do not buy personal contact lists from third-party data brokers.

04 – How we use it

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Services and your account;
  • Run the tools you ask for – match you to jobs, optimize your resume against a listing, draft a cover letter, score a listing with Vibe Check, calculate your commute or salary numbers, track your applications, and send the alerts you signed up for;
  • Personalize job recommendations, results, and content to your stated preferences;
  • Deliver the guides, lists, and downloads you request, and confirm your email address;
  • Measure how our pages, tools, funnels, and campaigns perform, including conversion rates by traffic source, so we can improve them;
  • Aggregate and summarize responses (including free-text answers) to understand what job seekers need – summaries are reported internally in aggregate, not published with your name;
  • Process subscriptions, billing, and customer support;
  • Communicate with you about the Services, including service messages and (where permitted) marketing you can opt out of at any time;
  • Enforce usage limits and free-scan quotas, and detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, security incidents, and other harmful activity;
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

Where required by law, we rely on a lawful basis – typically performance of our contract with you, your consent, or our legitimate interests in operating and improving the Services.

05 – Automated processing and AI features

Several tools use automated systems, including third-party AI models, to generate results. When you use them, the content you submit – such as your resume text, job titles and skills, a job description or listing URL, or your salary and preference inputs – is sent to our AI providers (currently Anthropic and the Lovable AI gateway) so they can return your result. These providers act as our processors under contract and are not permitted to use your content to train their models.

AI-generated output (match scores, rewrites, cover letters, listing verdicts, salary estimates) is a suggestion, not advice or a guarantee, and can be wrong. Nothing in these tools produces a legal or similarly significant decision about you. You can always contact us to ask how a result was produced.

06 – Cookies & analytics

We and our providers use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences and consent choice, measure performance, and understand how the Services are used. We use Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager, plus our own first-party event logging stored in our database, and our hosting, email, and platform providers (Lovable, Supabase, Kit, Brevo) generate usage data as part of delivering the Services.

Your choice. Beach Commute is a U.S. company and, consistent with U.S. state privacy laws, analytics cookies run by default and you can opt out at any time. First-time visitors see a notice at the bottom of the page with a one-tap Decline. Declining turns off analytics storage for your browser and we remember that choice on future visits. You can also block or clear cookies in your browser settings, or send a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, which we honor as an opt-out. If you disable cookies, some parts of the Services may not work properly.

You can opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies at optout.aboutads.info, optout.networkadvertising.org, or youronlinechoices.com.

07 – When we share information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share it only in these circumstances:

  • Service providers who process data on our behalf under contract – hosting, database, authentication, and storage (Lovable, Supabase); payments (Stripe, SamCart); email delivery and marketing (Brevo for transactional email, Kit for marketing email); analytics (Google Analytics / Google Tag Manager); and AI processing (Anthropic, Lovable AI gateway). They may use your information only to provide services to us.
  • Legal & safety – to comply with a law, regulation, court order, or valid government request; to enforce our agreements; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Beach Commute, our users, or others.
  • Business transfers – in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.
  • With your direction or consent – when you ask us to share, or otherwise agree. Applying to a job always happens on the employer’s own site; we don’t send your application or resume to employers.

08 – Sale & sharing for advertising

We do not sell your personal information for money. However, our use of advertising and analytics cookies may be considered “sharing” or a “sale” of personal information under the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) and similar state laws, because those technologies can disclose identifiers and online activity to advertising or analytics partners.

You have the right to opt out. Choose Decline on our cookie notice, set your browser to send a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, or email us at hello@beachcommute.com. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.

09 – How long we keep it

We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Services, then for a reasonable period afterward to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and enforce our agreements. Analytics and event records are generally retained for up to 24 months; scan, match, and tool history is kept so you can revisit your results and so we can enforce usage limits.

Data is retained in our database and never sold. If you’d like your information deleted, write to us and we’ll do it within 30 days. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.

10 – Your privacy rights

  • Know / access – request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we hold about you, and how we use and share it.
  • Correct – ask us to fix inaccurate information.
  • Delete – ask us to delete information we collected from you, subject to legal exceptions.
  • Portability – receive a copy of your information in a portable format.
  • Opt out of the “sharing” or “sale” of your information for advertising and analytics (see Section 08).
  • Withdraw consent or unsubscribe from marketing at any time.
  • Non-discrimination – we will not deny you services, charge a different price, or give you a lower quality of service for exercising these rights.

If you are in the EEA or UK, you also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

How to exercise your rights. Email hello@beachcommute.com. We will verify your request – usually by confirming control of the email on your account – and respond within the time required by law (generally 45 days, extendable once where permitted). You may use an authorized agent, subject to verification.

11 – Security

We use industry-standard measures designed to protect your personal information against loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, including encryption in transit, access controls, and restricted internal access to tool and analytics data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security. Help us protect your account by keeping your password confidential.

12 – Children

The Services are intended for adults and are not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact hello@beachcommute.com and we will delete it.

13 – International users

Beach Commute is operated from the United States, and we process and store information in the United States. If you access the Services from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.

14 – Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above, and for material changes we’ll provide additional notice where required. Your continued use of the Services after an update means you accept the revised policy.
